Customer just called me and said his dimmer switch is incredibly hot for his 9 downlights. Also after a while the lights trip..have not yet been to see this was just x what could be out there.
 
As above. And if the have 9x one dimmer potentially they could have a lot on the curcuit which could making it trip

However we could guess all night without seeing it nor seeing the test results

Best advice is go and look at the job
 
guess would be a faulty dimmer or 450watts of load on a 250watt dimmer. for that load i'd recommend at least a 700watt dimmer.
 
You need to consider the load, if its 35w bulbs you've got 315w, if its 50w you've got 450w

Rating of dimmer?
depth of back box?
cable connections good and tight?
