Hi,

Have been negotiating for a half container load of panels from an EU based distributor, and was advised that there may be 'some VAT implications', anybody had any experience of importing from the EU? Did you come across 'some VAT implications'?

Thanks.

Jerriais, I imported from Italy into Cyprus ( 2 eurozone countries ) and paid Vat at source ( 10% in Italy !!!) and was'nt asked for any more vat in Cyprus. Value of import was 8,000 euro. If you don't pay vat at source, and/or buy outside the Community then you will be liable. StanFitz

Personally I'd be very careful buying from Europe, there are some good companies/suppliers but also plenty of rogues and brokers with panels from unknown sources. Make sure you get a copy of their terms of business and do a credit check. Remember that if something goes wrong you will have to go to court in their country and not GB...

And one other question regarding importing from outside the EU, if you are the company that brings a product into the EU you have more responsibility for the safety and liabilities of the product than if you buy it within the EU. Does anyone know about extra responsibilities imposed on the original importer?
