I'm looking at adding 100mm of sound insulation in an internal floor with 9x2" joists. The house has been rewired at some point so there are cables running unclipped in the void of the floor. Most of these are 2.5mm for the sockets, and also some for light fittings. Plastic radiator pipes are also running in the void. I want to make sure that I don't do anything that could by unsafe and cause the cables to overheat, or require the circuits to be derated.

Am I right in thinking that it's okay to fit the insulation if I clip the electrical cable to the joists at least 50mm below the floor to prevent them lying on top of the insulation and try to keep them as far from the radiator pipes as possible?

Thanks

Keep em away from the pipes yes, so long as they are in space/free air they could lie on top of the insulation (if I’m understanding you correctly) are putting the insulation between the joists above the cables?

Always best to clip the cables though...

Plan is to put insulation so that it rests on the ceiling for the floor below, then have the cables above it.
Can’t see a problem, if you clip them to the joists away from the insulation it wouldn’t make any difference, I’m picturing insulation-a void with the cables clipped to joists-then floorboards?
