As the title suggests, for those of us who have retired, or cut back on their working practices, taking into account drinking smoking and unrelated activities.
Myself I have become a volunteer for Age UK, although nothing much has come my way just yet, I have also expored the possibility of becoming a, wait for it, don't jump down my throat just yet, an Apprentice Smart Meter dual Service fitter, which I await a reply with anticipation, (as Tel would say Age is just a number) I'll keep you all posted, if you are interested.
It would be nice to know if there are any like minded Codgers out there who would like to share their twilight fantasies, Memories, anecdotes they would like to share, I myself have penned an article about my life as an Electrician, for which I am awaiting advice about publication, so if you oldies have some stories please share them on the Forum.

Think you might know Pete, I semi retired 5 years ago. I somehow thought it would be a good idea to return to the job I did 30 odd years ago, but just limiting myself to domestic work. Big mistake. Domestic properties have lofts packed with crap & insulation, electrics have been attacked by kitchen fitters & DIY'ers, and customers who expect you to do the work for peanuts. As a consequence. I drink more, have no time for any exercise, and spend most of my time on this forum asking for advice. Should of carried on working.

I too thought about writing my memoirs, only to keep the brain active. On a depressive note, I've probably only got another 20 barbecue summers ahead of me, if I'm lucky. Who said you should look forward to retirement, and I'll punch his lights out, figuratively speaking. :)

I often think back to when in London at I guess about 20 I attended a Martini executives house to change a socket. I was greeted by the wife. She was resplendent in her negligee, blond and nubile, and offered me a drink (at 10 o clock in the morning!) I declined. She took me upstairs to the bedroom and sat on the bed with her drink in a reclining fashion watching me work. I noticed there was hand cuffs on the bed posts and was puzzled. I asked why they were there. I was informed it was for "fun" Couldn't understand that for the life of me. Anyway I put the socket in (now now!) got paid and went on my way. It was only years later I realised how I missed something important there.

So you were stirred but not shaken. :)

I have taken up a couple of new hobbies, I usually work for 4 days then take 4 days off, I have my caravan which will get some stick in the spring and summer, and I like air gun target shooting, I am just about to buy a new gun actually as well. I like wildlife and photography as well, plenty to keep my mind active, the internet is slowly going from my life now, a browse 2-3 times a day for 10 mins is usually all I do now, except today that is, spent about an hour on line today.

I worked with a guy last year who is 73 he is as bright as a button stole a cheery picker of some other lads while there back was turned and was pulling in cables right up in the air on a Tesco refit he was working with his son who's in his forties.

Cheers

As you know I was a sparks then went in to IT for a good few years, was on a sh!tty contract back in 2016 and when it ended I decided to take some time off to concentrate on doing nothing and my flat rebuild which finally sold on Friday. Its been 22 months now of bumming around and basically wasting my time I have also been ill and was diagnosed with DVT back it May as for a month previous to that it just knocked me so far sideways it was unbelievable.

I am also looking for something to do as the flat sale has paid off the loans and the mortgages but I do not fancy travelling by tube to either Canary Wharf or the City I'd rather a 30 min cycle from my house or maybe look in to what Pete999 wants to do with Smart Meter installs.

Also need to get in the gym to lose some weight, ramp up my swimming and as the weather gets better do some decent mileage on the road bike instead of pottering around on the Brompton.

I don't like all these smart meters it's just another way of collecting more information from Joe public.

The big Energy companies using the Police on the doorstep to trick people into getting them installed people who don't want them installed.

= last year British Gas broke into somebody's house when they were away and installed a smart meter the home owner didn't want.

A jobs a job I used to have to install CCTV cameras in peep/---- shops in Soho........

Do you have a link to the story as the only one that I know off was that a pre payment meter was installed as BG hadn't updated their records?

Retired here, and bored...it was fine at first, as I retired last April (on my birthday...best present ever!) and the weather was good so even though I hate gardening I did a fair bit, plus lots of golf and tennis and, my favourite, visiting Spain. However, when the good weather ended I was left doing "those jobs" around the house...
I still do some PAT and related stuff for private landlords, and as it's just occasional work I really enjoy it. I aim to spend 6 months in Spain this year, and having met some really nice contractors out there I am hoping for some light work to keep me busy. I have met a guy who runs a great hardware store and I take him samples of anything I can't get over there...so far he has really liked Wagos! but hasn't got round to stocking them as he says the local guys won't use them.
I also spend far too much time on t'internet...but this site keeps me sane, so a big thank you to you all!

I bet you speak to God when you've had a few.......... ;o)))

Don't drink much these days... Hardly any really. Last time I had alcohol was xmas day. Bottle of red wine. The time before that was the previous xmas..
I used to drink like a fish, but I can take it or leave it.

God.... who's he?? :tearsofjoy:

When you retire you need structure in your life, @Midwest, the weather is getting better get your fat lard arse on to your bike and do some trails I hear there is a great place in Wales for off roading on MTB's I am planning a few rides around the New Forest.

Yep no excuses really. I was quite into mountain biking, about 20 years ago. Done the Ridgeway & places round the Chilterns & Gloucester. Think it might kill me off doing that nowadays!

The only thing that peeved me off, was spending about two hours cleaning & lub'ing the bike afterwards.
