Discuss Shower in the Australia area at ElectriciansForums.net

Im new as you guys know so bare with me :D

Shower is 9.5kw so thats 9.5 / 230v = 41.30 amps

6mm t+e clipped direct will carry 47amps

So on the above a 45amp MCB would be needed but you would be quite on the limit and i would personally prefer a 10mm t+e cable.

but i doubt its clipped direct more like ref meth 102* maybe ? so that means 6mm t+e will be dropped down to 35amps.
Meaning the shower would be pulling 41amps but the cable being only able to cope with 35amps if it was ref meth 102* correct ?

not really. think he's got the idea that 6mm cable is ok protected by a 40A , but has come for advice to confirm or reject his idea. clipped direct, the 6mm is fine on a 40A, but depending on installation method, this may be unsuitable. the only way to be sure is to know the ccc of the cable, depending on reference method, and calculate from that.
