Discuss Tripping 6amp breaker in the Electrical Wiring, Theories and Regulations area at ElectriciansForums.net

LOL

Just had a thought but i am tierd.

When I connected the new bathroom light up I isolated the feed from the switch but the N was live (got a wack)

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm Thoughts please ?

I’ve not read all the post on this thread but could you not find the center point of the lighting radial and isolate the last half & provide temp ltg from 13A plugs.

If all works and not tripping it must be on the last half of the radial you isolated.

EDIT: noticed you mentioned you cant lift floor boards up.

I would chop a small hole in a few ceilings. They can be easily patched up.

OMFG

Found it.

I found out it was the kitchen lighting at fault. I had my fluke on the switch when the lady walked up the stairs, I got 175v L to Earth then BANG ,,TRIPPED,,

I then isolated this feed to the kitchen light 2 way and tested again. Hmmmmmmmm No fault,No trip.

Sat with a bacon butty and tea for 3 long hours. Still no trip. So I reconnected the fitting feed back up yup I had voltage as she walked up the stairs.

After looking at the light fitting for faults I did notice some of the cieling had been re-skimmed !!!

I then pulled on the cable and this cable was running about 1mm under the skim to the wall up the wall then under the stairs.

Problem was J/b skimmed over in cieling loose connections. Then under the stairs it was passed under the carpet metal gripper. This gripper had cut into to the insulation.

So I then made safe and isolated the circuit.

5 hours later still no tripping going on.

Tests are fine and I think I solved the dam problem...

Thanks for all the help chaps I needed it.

You deserve a medal mr eco-tech for not giving up. Well done. And many thanks for giving us such a detailed account of all the things you tried. It's posts like yours that help make this forum so useful.:yesnod:

Wow I think you are there! Well done!
Dedication pays off in the end.
Time to have a Happy Christmas, without that hanging over your head.

Some people do weird things and it takes effort to work out what they do, you put in the effort and it was (eventually) rewarded.

Well that was alot of fun! Thats how all problem solving threads should be.Must of drove you crazy but you can't beat that hallelujah moment. Guess post 70 was a big clue as far as the carpet gripper goes....... Well done

Happy new year,

Yeh it took about 40 hours, but after showing her the problem she had to agree to pay the cost's

I isolated the circuit at fault and she payed for a new circuit and low voltage track lighting to be put up.

I charged her £500 for the weeks work. Not that bad.

Great feedback from this post Im well happy

HAPPY NEW YEAR
