its no fight ip,far from it,good discussion of views imo,personally i like auto venting when it aids smoke ventilation and the escape route for people,as for fire containment and fire fighting it will be a different issue

im sure in 5 years or so, il be offering him this option for exta£££££ and know what is right

It'll be a good deal longer than that i fear...
 
relative to most guys here I know bugger all; i know what I need to, and well, but this discussion really had me interested in the whys and wherefores of smoke venting etc. I've fitted smoke and heat dets before but never thought of it past that.This has been a truly enlightening post. Many thanks to all involved.,
