Discuss What pets do you have, and what pets have you had? in the Electricians Chat - Off Topic Chat area at ElectriciansForums.net

No matter what pet you have, give them a little extra cuddle tonight from us . We just had our big, brave, beautiful lad put to sleep this afternoon. I'm busy trying to numb the hurt with alcohol but it doesn't seem to be working just now.
Here's him on the beach

I feel for you having been through that myself.........

That's a bummer Trev. I'll raise a glass to your mate tonight myself.

I grew up with a little black & white collie who eventually went to my grandparents' when he got too old for rowdy boys. We inherited two other dogs when my brother couldn't look after them, plus a few goats over the years.

Currently my wife and I have a little Persian cross, but would like to get another kitten or puppy once we're in a larger place.

My heart goes out to you it really does , I have lost 2 dogs and the one I have now has a heart murmur , its so hard , just think of all the good times you had with him and keep him alive in you're memories , so sad ..

I couldn't be without my dog now, the last 5 years have flown by.
I am lucky though due to our lass being a lady of leisure,it means there is always someone in the house with jack, it really isn't fair to have a dog then leave it alone all the time.
here is a good rule guide for anyone thinking of buying a dog, it may be a bit soppy for some but it makes perfect sense.
http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rc...sg=AFQjCNHJSioy6RE05EiVS0uJzDTTDAYePg&cad=rja
I knew I shouldn't have read that as I'm a soppy old git. I wonder how many dog lovers read that and immediately gave their dog a hug? I know I did!

This is my dog. I know they don't have the best reputation but mine Is as good as gold especially with the kids.

A little personal note.
I have recently had some fairly significant surgery so, much of the dog walking has fallen to my dear wife. She is also my official carer. The dog, and we've had him just a few months, is the unofficial carer.

Yesterday, I had a particularly bad day. I slept a lot and the dog kept an eye on me. Is a sixth sense or is he just thinking that the old boy is not behaving normally. Whatever, he is there.

Today, I was over that and walked the dog five times. He was a happy chappy. We have parks and woods and he can run around off the lead. And comes back upon request. "lead". He come trotting up, and sits down ready.

So we got to the park and, as usual, I let him off the lead. OK. I laid down. I expected him to run about and find one of his pee trees. No. He just laid right beside me and licked my hand and waited for me to move.

Certainly Mr Unofficial Carer in my book.

Here's our cat, it's as old as the hills but it's still going strong.

An elegant stance......
Happy, confident. He has come a long way in six months from that shy fellow who wouldn't even get in the car..

Beautiful eyes.
And she survived despite the bleak prognosis. You and your missus have to credit for that.
Tiny dog at 2lb. Maybe they are more sensitive/prone to ailments but you got through it.

Ours was about 70lb when I last weighed him. A challenge. Stand on the scales. Weigh myself. Pick up the beast and weigh again.

A little tale (tail) that might amuse you.

Yesterday I took Max for an evening stroll. We live in a suburban neighbourhood.with parks and playing fields. We getting back home when Max decided to defecate. Unfortunately Max decided it was time to go and defecated in the very small patch of grass in front of someone's house.

To make matter worse that someone was standing at her door.
"Where are your poo bags" she screamed at me.and slammed the door.
Of course, I carry poo bags. We are responsible dog owners. So I cleared up.

Then the nasty streak in me surfaced.
I knocked at her door.
"Here are the poo bags, madam. Do you still want them?"

Her look was worth it.........

Our big dog is getting bigger. Still growing. I think he now weighs about 80lbs. He not a small dog.
He socialises well with other dogs. (And people!)
In the big park today, we met a St Bernard. Bloody huge beast. Made Max look Min..........
Barney, the St Bernard.

The owner was reluctant to let Barney off the lead being a bit fearful that he could hurt our relatively small dog. I convinced her that it would be just fine. So she did.

Max, far from being intimidated by difference in size just took to him. They romped around for quite a while. It was quite amusing in a way. A galloping race horse and a lumbering cart horse is probably the best way I can describe it. Most importantly, they got along. Barney, for all his bulk, seems to have a beautiful benign nature. A big friendly boy. And just six months old.......

Good for you.
All my dogs were rescue dogs, I can't face getting another one though after my last one.

I know , its hard I can't stand loosing them , even the thought of it happening is hard , we have spent thousands keeping them alive , but at the end of the day theres dogs that need a home and we just feel its our own thoughts that gets in the way.....

I've done the same , my last dog was over twenty when she died, her medication bill was a fortune.
I took ill after she died, and I know that I could not have looked after her the way she needed.
I have not the heart to take another in case if I took ill again she would suffer, also I am still heart broken.
It won't seem to go away this time.

If I had money it would be my full time job.
Not just dogs , all animals that needed a home.:)
Our handsome beast came from a rescue centre. He has turned out to be a joy. Maybe it's a combination of nature and nurture. And maybe we just got plain lucky.

Anyway I've been thinking about volunteering to help there as a little bit of payback. I might have done so already since I have time - I retired a couple of months ago - but a bit of ill health has delayed that.

Here's a picture of him trying to decide if he wants to read about racing or fuses.......

It is a lot of the way you treat them, They are not daft , they know nice people:smile5:.
I am pleased You are considering helping out . It will be very worthwhile. I take my hat of to you.
There should be more like you, the world would be a better place.

In my own way I try and help the wildlife around here, we have a wide variety , especially song and hedgerow birds.
Not being able to much lately I get great pleasure trying to keep them safe, and also keep the poachers at bay.

PS. We have similar interests.

If I'm honest I don't, The thing is I struggle to see the point of them ( Sorry Lee and other cat lovers ) don't get me wrong I could not nor would not ever do one any harm but I just don't get their purpose, Don't get me wrong there is something very relaxing about watching one hunting or prowling but that's where it stops for me.
But we can't all like only one kind of animal.

The other half insured ours today for the year, third party fire and theft...or something like that. £60 quid!!

I pointed out we could get a brand new one from the RSPCA again for 50 notes.

Apparently is doesn't work like that.
