Here is my two, the Cockerpoo is now 17 months old and bigger than the Lakeland cross, I will need to get a new photo up, but I am a dog lover, well I love all animals and birds to be honest, but have a soft spot for dogs

animals instinctively know when a human is caring!
both my fur-balls know this and will come to me when something is bothering them.

the sad part of that video is that too many people don't care and consider cats and dogs to be beneath them and not worthy of their attention. quite often the most painful lessons we learn are those from the suffering an animal has endured due to the cruelty of humans.

3 pups sold. we kept this one.. Mickey. he's now 5 moths old. our tally now is 5 rats dogs. 2 male, 3 female.

I have an old ----- that's 16 human years old, that's about a squillon in cat years! Just like Jess from postman Pat.
Three xats a rabbit and a Song Thrush I found as a small fledgling, Joey was his name, bloody next doors cat had him for dinner one day.

was 1 Chihuahua, then 2, then 3, now 5 . we have 5 generations, originally sired by Dylan, the 1st one we had 10 years ago. sometimes you just have to keep a pup out of a litter. we usually end up with the one nobody else wants. see avatar for the one that should not have survived a few days from birth, she is now 9 years old.

have to sadly report, Misia ( as in avatar ) has left us for doggy heaven today. she had what appears to be a massive seizure in the night. wsas slumped rigid at 7 00am. i gave her cpr and mouth to mouth, got a faint heartbeat and respriration. took her direct to vet, but they could not control her seizures, possible brain tumour. after 3 hours i had to make the decision to euthanise her as once the anti-seizure drugs wore off she was going back into seizure. Dec 23, 2011 - May 2021. she's had a good life, but I'm still in bits.

Sorry to hear the news TEL, losing a long owned pet is like losing a family member especially if you have loved it and looked after it for a long period, chin up Mate, like you say She had a good life and didn't suffer in any way.

Sorry to hear that.

It's never easy, but part of giving them a good life as you have is knowing when it's their time to go, however hard that decision is.

All you can then do is try to hang on to the happy memories.

Cats, Rabbits when I was a nipper no Dogs mother was anti dogs in a big way, had a Song Thrush I found as a youngster till next door Moggy got him, I hate Cats.

Always had a dog and a cat or two around the place, although the cats are supposed to be part of the work force, rather than pets. Applies to the dog as well, in theory, but not quite in practice.
Current mutt is 14 years old, and beginning to fall about a bit at the rear end, so we're beginning to realise he won't last forever. He fell down the stairs just after Christmas, so now there's a plywood gate blocking them off.
Thought his time was up a couple of months ago, when we found weeping tumours around his rear. Took him on what we expected to be a one way trip to the vet, but it turned out the tumours were benign and operable, so one arm and a leg later (ours), he's back as he was again, although looking ridiculous with a bald rear end and tail in contrast to the rest of his scruffy long coat.
All our dogs are 'free running' , coming and going as they please, but they all have hung around the yard without wandering off.
We had one elderly dog about twenty years ago who was failing fast. This was a highly intelligent dog that had never wandered off in her whole life and knew how to behave around vehicles, but on one summer's afternoon a car pulled into our yard, with a dented front wing, and our dog's lifeless body in the boot. She had walked a third of a mile to a main road, and had what only can be explained as committed suicide by walking in front of a car.

Sorry to hear that Tel, there’s not much harder than losing part of the family fur covered or not.

My wee man has just turned 10 and I’ve noticed recently how old he’s looking :-(

Went to post that and realised it sounded like I was talking about an actual child. I’m not, we’ve got two rescued Staffie’s a boy and a girl. He’s 10, she’s 6; both have their issues following periods of abuse in their first years of life but we wouldn’t change them for a thing.

In all my 26 years, I have had many different animals. Such as decorative rats, cats, dogs, parrots, guinea pigs, decorative rabbits and even a pigeon (I found it with a broken wing and nursed it). Now I have a wonderful red cat named Simba, who has the same character as me, and a cool mega-calm and gentle rat - Ruby.

I do have a cat, as well as the dog, but the cat is on the payroll as a predator. I don't like him, and he doesn't like me, but as long as he keeps the vermin down, he can stay.
Our 14 year old collie cross, is still falling about a little, as in my last post, but last Saturday he gave us a real fright.
Around midday, my wife came out and said there's something seriously wrong with Max. He had started walking around in circles, and was now unable to stand up without immediately falling over.
I came in, and he was lying there, breathing heavily, head rocking around, and eyes moving continuously and rapidly from side to side. If I got him onto his feet, he would immediately into the nearest solid object. large Didn't look good at all.
Vet was closed, so turned to Google. Came up with "idiopathic vestibular disease", which fitted the symptoms perfectly.
This is apparently a common occurrence in older dogs, refers to the inner ear/brain balance system, occurs without warning, and for no known reason. The good news was that, after 48 hours or so, the symptoms should start to subside, rapidly at first, then, over a couple of weeks, should slowly disappear altogether.
That night, I used three mattresses to make what was effectively a padded cell for him to sleep in, or he would definitely have broken bones falling around.
Sunday morning brought little change, although I did get him to drink a little water.
Sunday evening, and there were small signs of improvement. Head still rocking, eyes still moving, but both not quite as badly, and I could get him to stand, as long as I stood over him, with one leg either side. Back in the padded cell overnight.
Monday morning came, and more marginal improvement, drinking a little more, an eating a few scraps of food, but by Monday evening, there were real signs of improvement, so no padded cell that night.
It's now Wednesday evening, all the head and eye movement has stopped, and he's just about back to normal, as long as he's lying down. He can stand OK now, and walk normally for several paces, but then he'll suddenly lurch to one side, so he's going for short walks outside on a very short lead, so that he can't fall over and hurt himself. Drinking normally, but still turning up his nose towards his usual biscuits, preferring to share our food instead.

Mabel, God bless her, passed away late 2020. Maud joined us early 2021 and in a few weeks is one year old. Both Jack Russell bitches. Wonderful creatures. I will post a photo of Maud when I next flash up my ipad.

My little W. Axl Rose the cat bites my hand and nose when he's hungry. My little Slash the cat pokes me on the back of the neck or back with his fingernail when he wants attention in the middle of the night.

I thought I’d posted on this thread ages ago, but can find it…. So here goes.
Running backwards from present day.

Current canine, Bridie ( as in Forfar) as seen on my profile.
IMG_3949.jpeg

One rabbit, only recently down from two. Both named after my wife’s grandmothers.
One Guinea pig

Previous.
Another 2 guineas, a hamster, named Badger.
Decker the dog, 5 budgies in total over the years, another hamster, Chewie and 3 goldfish, bubbles, blossom and buttercup. Named by our eldest daughter who was 4 at the time.

A Black Pug owns me as her pet.

I've worded it like that because from the moment she was born, most of her marbles are missing.
She wont be trained, wont be told and carries on each and every day like she owns the planet.

Up to 2 months ago we would walk around the Church, then on the day of that Royal king thing, the side door of the church was open, before I could do anything she had shot through the door and a commotion began from within.
I stuck my head through the door and was horrified to see her jumping over peoples laps as they sat on their pews.
She ran up and down at least 60 peoples laps until I unstuck my head out of the door and ran away.

I stood under a tree way back from the church, with vision of the side door and the main door.
127 seconds of standing there, because all I could do was count. She appeared out of the front doors with 5 people in toe.

A few weeks later she did the exact same thing, but this time at a funeral. Luckily the vicar caught her in time, she must of run to him first because he is was at the front of the congregation, so this side door was behind him.

But what impressed me was the vicars speed, he's not exactly built like a ninja, but he had the moves of Bruce Lee and plucked her from the ground and up into the air.

We don't walk down the church anymore.

Haha. Well there you go.

I think maybe I am like my dog. Apparently I look sleepy most the time and I wolf down food at the speed of light.

I was going to say something about where my dog likes to lick...but I suspect that is inappropriate for a professional forum like this.

update on our menagerie. in addition to the 6 females (5 bred by us, 1 a rescue) we have 2 survivors of a litter of 3; 1 had a fatal reaction to vaccination) now 10 weeks old and ready to go to new homes, but the current financial squeeze is making it ditfficult to find a buyer with the readies.

Current count is three rescues - two cats and nearly 10st of German Shepherd. All taken on over lockdown, one of the cats was RSPCA, another was handed in to a local vets as an abandoned kitten about two weeks old - fitted in the palm of my hand and had me up all round the clock doing 2hr bottle feeds! He's now a 6kg bruiser of a skilled hunter. German Shepherd was also RSPCA, from what we can figure out had been locked up in a garage and neglected for the first five years of his life, very triggered and un-socialised. He's now a huge teddy bear with me and we can rough play like lunatics having gained trust..... but strangers beware!

I took in a German Shepherd many years back as her owner was planning to send her to the USPCA. Gaining her trustng was no problem, but took about a year to get rid of her bad habits and fully trust her. I loved all the dogs I've had equally, but there's something special about German Shepherds - highly intelligent, exceptionally loyal and scare the living sh*t out of arrivals in the yard by just standing still.

My father eventually took her as I'd only planned keeping her a few weeks, to save her from being put down. He had many dogs over the years, but was in bits when she eventually had to be put down due to health issues. I don't think he'd ever fully appreciated the bond between man and dog - the others were pets, whereas she was a companion.

Over two years later, and he's still going. Hardly a tooth in his mouth and wobbles all over the place when he eventually struggles to his feet. Half blind and half deaf (although he can always hear me put my cutlery down on the plate at the end of a meal), but still seems to be enjoying life.
