A plumber mate was looking at that sds and asked my thoughts on it. I told him it can't have much uummphh as a 10 volter. Obviously I am wrong on that score! Looks pretty nifty it does. Looks a good size for keeping in your tool tote.

I bought it for small fixings, but when I get the chance I'll try it with a 20 or 25mm bit and see how it does.

I'm interested in that hole cutting SDS bit. Where did you get it? Are they still available to purchase?

Bought a few years ago, along with a single box square one. Might have been from Toolstation. I've not noticed them recently. Really good for soft brick and block and OK for tidying up holes in harder bricks where the bulk has been removed by drilling or chiseling.

Out of curiosity, my Bosch 36V will drill a typical 5.5mm hole to around 50mm deep in 2-4 seconds. I am guessing the bigger Makitas are similar. How much slower is your new kit? It's gotta be slower, but I assume a good bit quicker than a decent combi.

I've not used it enough to tell, but it didn't strike me as noticeably slower than my other SDS drills for small holes. It's certainly much faster than an ordinary combi drill on brickwork. I think you'd have to be doing an awful lot of holes to care if it was slightly slower.

Bought a Makita plunge saw with 2 rails and clamps next purchase will be a DAB radio i have heard quite a few but i think the Makita sounds the best. Unfortunately i dont have any Makita battery tools for the batterys so might have to invest in the 18v 3ah kit (the wife dont know about the plunge saw )i cant stop i need help alchoholics have AA what is there for toolaholics like us please help me LOL

The DAB radio sound quality is seriously good I think.

Ha I feel you over the toolaholic thing, I want tools I don't even need!!

Very sensible approach, but it has meant that I've got no friends anymore ... on the plus side you are building something to pass on, perhaps ?

Scruffix gave me £70 in vouchers, with no minimum spend, for signing up to the Electricfix catalog so it would have been rude not to indulge. Used the last one this week, a little electronic distance measure. No frills, no batteries and no case but for twenty quid, or a freebie voucher it does the job admirably. unlikely to be nicked on-site, unless they are really desperate/cheap.
