Some of them have the soft rubber membrane designed for this, but the 308 which is the most commonly used size doesn't.

Some months ago I came across a front garden installation with (if I recall 9 boxes) where all the cables had been just pushed through membranes, then all the boxes buried under gravel. About half of them were half full of water/muck. Obviously the installer must have watched this European installation video.
