Hi,
does anyone know if wylex 60898's can replace it 3871 equivalent?
Just need to fit a 45a MCB for new shower a customer has fitted but he has 3871 board and I'm struggling to find a 45a 3871 and would rather fit a new mcb anyway.

Its the Wylex NSB type 2 MCB's. Couldn't get access to the board as its in really stupid position and requires taking kitchen units apart to access but could see it.

many thanks,

is this an old Wylex CU with the 3036 fuses replaced by MCBs? In which case 60898 can fit into the CU

If its a new circuit shouldn't use 3871s are they are not recognised anymore. New shower - manufacturers instructions usually say should be protected by RCD, I'm guessing the CU isn't RCD protected.

Don't think you can get a 45 amp wylex Mcb but you should be able to get a 40 amp old type NSB of Ebay wylex 3871 ncb | eBay But if is a new circuit t should be protected by an RCD so may be better getting a small shower unit DB or changing the board

Its actually RCD protected already and an existing shower circuit. He didn't realise he bought a higher rated shower and its been tripping the 32 amp MCB after being on for a little while, so I thought I'd look to see if I could find a 45a. Has anyone had any joy fitting a 60898 equivalent in one of these boards?
cheers

The older Wylex MCBs have a part of the MCB that cuts out to fit the bus bar. I have not tried the new wylex MCBs but i don't think they will fit , If you are just swapping the MCB over then go for the 3871 off ebay , I can't see it being a issue as you are not altering the circuit, have you checked the cable in man enough.

and just to muddy the water, as the shower is a fixed load you only need short circuit protection so you can fit a 50A MCB if you so desire. as long as the fibreglass monkeys don't come along and smother the cable.

ah didn't think of that! I might have to go down that route as I'm still struggling to find a 45a and I'm not sure if a 40a will trip out too as i cant find any 3871 time curves at all. I'll get up in the loft and make sure the cable stays clear of the insulation! cheers
