I nearly missed this thread. I got the A and B, failed the C, in the early 70s. changed jobs and my new employer let me take it again. I really felt that I had achieved something then.
It never got me any more money on the industrial side but I usually got the more interesting jobs.
The cable you need is called Armaflex. The one I use is the clear that you can see the braiding through. I use it a lot and use the 5 core. Not sure what size it goes up to but 1.5 and 2.5 is easily available. Cost is not bad either. Just google it. I have not got the hang of uploading photos...
It was a Pat testing day today in a workshop and I had just checked out all the appliances in the kitchen area ok and then came to the bad bit. It was already not clever as the kettle and microwave had previously been plugged into a custom built 2 way trailing socket.

Here's a good one I did today. A kettle nearly brand new branded something like Ainsley Harriot.
The base itself had a push-button on/off, a neon and a rotary switch. The kettle just the element,, not visible.
A class 1 item, did a class 1 test and it failed on RPE and RISO. Tried again on...
Can you do the test on 250volts as I had this exact same thing on a washing machine last week,on 500v it failed but on 250v the reading was 1.49 and it passed.
Depending on the machine you can get false readings.
