I am after some advice regarding some work being done in my house by a qualified electrcian (qualifications verified). I have had a new 2 storey extension built and the electrician has created a new circuit for both the ligts and power for both of these via a new consumer unit which he...

Hi All
Please correct me if I'm wrong I was thought that an RCD should trip when you come In contact with a live conductor. Now I have had 2 electric shocks in the last 3 months and on both occasions and the RCD did not trip. The RCD was tested and passed.
Any ideas ?
I was wondering if anyone can answer this one for me. I'm an electricians mate, I did ask the guy I'm with but he couldn't give me an answer.
So after he changed the board and I did the bonding I get to go round testing. Whilst taking the zs of the shower I noticed immediately upon removing...
For the eagle eyed out there, can you tell me whats wrong with this arrangement and for a bonus point what reg. no. would apply.
The only bit of info you need is that its a TT system.
Not in any way denigrating anyone's religion, or ethnic background, but saw this on youtube today, your thoughts please. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pKzAZc3So8
A friend is installing a new cooker which has a rating of 16a. The old one was off a 13a fused switch wired on the kitchen ring as it was only rated at 10a. Can a 20a double pole switch be fitted in its place?
Just a thought/scenario. Domestic customer contacts you to go and look at a house they have purchased, to do a condition report. This is nothing to do with any Napit/niceic scam, you are just doing it independently. They have already suggested you will be doing any remedial work. Upon...
I’ve found a couple of installations (TNCS) where the location of the MET is not clear.
In both cases, gas/water bonding has been run back to either/or the DNO break-out “MET” or to the Consumer Unit. "There can only be one MET"
The first one I sorted out and created just one MET.
The new...
Hi all

Now i always thought a combi drill could be used for wood and masonry. I have a mains sds for chasing and big masonry work but Time and time again i use my combi to drill 6mm and 7mm holes for wallplugs. I often question why you would need an 18/24v sds when combi can do the same job. 36v ones...
Hi,
a google search brought me here. I've just had a solar pv system installed with a SB5000TL-21. I 've bought a sunny webbox with it so that I can keep a log of the output etc.
I noticed the Country standard is set to AS4777.3, a search revealed that it is an Australian standard. So the...

Ive recently rewired 2 flats in the same area both of which were built in the 50/60s and both had various degrees of unsafe electrics. The area is blocks...
having a debate onsite....changing some tubes in a 600x600 recessed fitting with a prismatic diffuser. I put the diffuser back in with the dimpled side up ( inside the fitting) and the smooth side down.
Been told this wrong and that the smooth side should be inside the fitting because it easier...
Hello all,
House is 22 years old. Wiring probably not done brilliantly to start. This is the second ceiling light in a small room I use as an office. Was child's bedroom and I cannot state 100% if this light ever worked.
Anyway, I fitted two new Habitat lights, ditching horrid Chinese block...
