hello there

just been to look at a job, customer wants 2 new wall lights in main bedroom. now there is currently no rcd protection ( wylex board BS3036 rewireable fuses) (main bonding all ok) the additions will involve cable <50mm from surface so RCD protection is definately required. Now i could either fit local RCD protection via RCDSFU(6amp) on the feed to the bedroom circuit, or i could fit the RCDSFU(6 amp) beside the C.U. and protect the whole upstairs lighting circuit. i think both would be suitable just wondered if anyone has any better suggestions

many thanks

i always test the circuit before making an addition, best to know what your dealing with before rather than after you have worked on it. im kinda leaning towards placing rcd next to cu then at least the whole circuit will then be protected, better for customer who may require future upgrades.

would not the ali. sheath need to be earthed to preclude the use of RCD?
