Hi, I am a second year apprentice and was wondering if you lot know of any good reading/revision material to prepare for the AM2 exam I'll be having next year?

Also, how hard is it and what's involved - I've heard the hardest part is wiring the boiler system, however I've also heard that it is easy as you have a basic wiring diagram to follow. What's your thoughts on this?

Thanks

If I remember, the Heating wiring on the AM2 is just an s-plan.

Well that's a help! Cheers haha.

I heard it's become a lot easier through the years, we don't even have to make up and fix the containment anymore.

lol the hardest bit is reading the spec properly.

they put in the spec to wire it back to front etc to trip you up, couple lads fell for it when i did mine.

i followed my spec to the letter and finished with a full day's worth of time left

start doing the easy bits first e.g. bonding, ring etc then when you relax more onto the harder parts that could trip you up.

the spec will tell you which cable and which size

You have more then a day to do the installation now? good grief!
One chap walked out when I did mine many years ago because he just could not get the metal conduit to bend how he needed it - threw it to the floor in the end, shouted F**k this, and left.
AM2 was the last time I used pyro as well.....

3 days to do the whole thing. i did the install in one day and then finished before 1pm the next day and before 11am the last day (i didnt get there till 8)

they wouldn't let me finish it on the second so i had to come back lol

Likewise.. Things have obviously changed. I remember wiring the DOL starter for the motor. Now they have changed it for a heating system. The pyro. Conduit and SWA was more or less to length with hardly any tolerance as I remember.
