Discuss Bit of a moan about appliances in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

We fit loads of imported appliances and they all have euro 2 pin plugs fitted as standard so guess what we have to do ?. Most manufacturers only state about replacing the cable being replaced by them not the attached plug. Just an old wifes tail passed on to the fitter by another chancer he probibly worked with. The sale of goods act trumps warranties in this situation anyway with reguards appliance issues anyway.

As you already have a FCU for each appliance, replace the single socket with a connection plate. If any appliance has a fuse in the moulded plug less than 13 amps, put that in the FCU and label the FCU with the fuse rating :)

I thought about a bull nose type connection plate. But the fitter said he would sort it, so I said crack on. I had done my part that was asked by the customer. If he went and changed things, that's his prerogative.

Right stop this cutting off the plug invalidates the warranty thing.

I did a rather intensive email (at great expense & time to myself, I might add :)) survey of about eight major manufactures last year, and only one had an issue with cutting their moulded plugs. I've lost the link to that particular thread, and I can't remember who said no, might have been Howdens (who supply Lamona?)

Do quite a few kitchens, and if I can't mount socket in an adjacent unit, cut off the plug, use a flex outlet plate, fed via FCU above worktop.

Good sensible manual - allows for the fact that the plug may need to be removed/replaced.
