My ceiling lights were flickering, I found something sticking out of one of the three sockets. Only one looks like the picture. I put another bulb in there, it blew immediately and now the lights are no longer flickering.

My ceiling fan lights were flickering, I found something sticking out of one the sockets. There are 3 sockets, only one looks the way it does in the picture. I put another bulb in there, it blew out immediately and the lights are no longer flickering.

Picture is a bit blurred but there appears to be the cap of a broken lamp still screwed into the holder.
 
As above, looks like part of the fitting has snapped off inside.
