Hi all,

I'm currently a small company with myself, an apprentice, and another electrician and currently i write down all apprentice, electrician and job hours in a book. As work is getting pretty manic i'm in the process of taking on another electrician and a electricians mate and so was wondering if anybody had some information on some software that i can use to make my life a little easier. Something that i can keep a record of hours on individual jobs and hours worked by employees mainly but am willing to look into something that also does invoicing and quotations?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Sound like you should start with some nice simple job times sheets and end of week time sheets. That record time and parts used. Failing that we use comusoft that has been very good

Is the issue that you or your lads are missing jobs or is it that you know everything that is getting done but just don't have the time to sit down and right everything down, The reason I ask is if it's a case of missing jobs out then as daft as it sounds trackers on your vans can be a good idea, you will never miss another job again because it will show you exactly where you've been and for how long.

use a spreadsheet software, have one sheet for counting hours, one for invoice template, one for quote form etc.
easy to tailor it up for your own requirements. i a free use Open Office suite but you may have some
Microsoft Excel preinstalled on office pc, can use that too.

Quickbooks is probably the best but yet easy to use software for invoicing etc and it also has an Employees section to fill out although I don't need this side of it so cannot give any opinions that way...

If you do get it - go for the full price package approx £140 quid and not the pay monthly to use package as you would never actually own it then and pay well over the initial cost after a few years.

I use excel for anything that needs repeated calculations.
Even when they are not very complex.
If you have it, I may be able to design you a starting template to work with.

I use timesheeter app, you put job infore onto your Computer and then send to they phone, when they get to job they press the timer button, when they finish they press the button and you can see it on your computer as they do it, if they have to buy Materials they take a pic of receipt and you can see it save it and log it, all infore can be uploaded/ download to uther apps which you than use for invoice, estimate, and keep track of who's paid and not,
