Hi guys
I bought an Hager Esc463s contactor, that seems to me it heats up too much? Under no load, just connecting the coil, it heats up to about 50 Celsius, ambient temperature 30 Celsius. Is this normal? Do the contactor coils heat up that much? It is not defective, as i sent it back, and bought another one, the same model from another place, same temperatures!
Thank you!

Contactors work by sending current through a coil, creating magnetism, that pulls the switch in.

There will be some heat generated.

Does the contractor have enough free air around it to dissipate heat?
It may be in beside other devices, or enclosed where heat can’t readily escape.

What voltage is at the coil terminals.

Have you actually measured that.

A coil of a contactor will generate heat I would email Hager and ask them directly.
