BS7671 could be a start.

And three more i am sure you can think of if you try.

:)

Think about the essential nature of the question.
This would rule out the on site guide, as BS7671 will cover this.
Also think about legislation (i.e statutory documents)
Also what is the designer actually doing and how can he find out about this.

Had this same question a few years ago, think about what you need, materials etc. So catalogues, internet etc.
And you have to have some idea of what is needed in the installation so design spec?

I suppose if it is "sources" of information, that are to be identified...and the OP's first ask,on the topic,is on this forum...then one of the sources is...:smile5:

But the list of possible sources,is easy,a mentor, professional journals, suppliers of equipment, authorised regulatory bodies, libraries, not excluding reference libraries...

Also,if being responsible for the design, either individually,or collectively, you should be contacting the required institutions, who can advise on matters such as insurance, indemnity, and any legal aspects, short and long-term.

Essential sources of information are those that are required to do the job.
A designer therefore needs to have access to the wiring regulations to ensure compliance.
He must have a job specification from the customer so that he can actually design something.
In order to ensure compliance with the building regulations he must have access to the building regulations.
In order to ensure the safety of the installation and suitability for connection he needs to know the supply capability from the supplier of electricity.
You could also state that the HASAWA would be required but this should be covered by both wiring and building regulations to some extent as far as the designer is concerned.
He may design lighting 30' up in the air, it is then down to the installer to comply with H&S requirements to fit them.
Sources of information about the capabilities of the equipment to be installed would also be essential but this may be a bit wide ranging to classify, but perhaps manufacturers instructions / technical specifications may cover this.
However since the Op has not been back perhaps he already has the answers.
