Funny readings continuity of protective conductors

I'm doing an continuity test on a lighting circuit and I'm getting funny readings I'm putting on test lead on earth and one on switch live then I'm getting a reading of around 1.4 ohms but then when I'm checking the polarity it's shooting up to around 93 ohms but not breaking the circuit as you would expect yet when the power is on the light works fine I'm totally lost now any help would be much appreciated thanks

you're probably mistaking switch live with neutral.

sounds like the 93ohms is the (cold) resistance of the load.

If you have the main switch is still closed and the earth and neutral are still in their respective bars, e.g when using a link wire from line to earth, then you can read the resistance of a piece of equipment via the neutral earth link when the switch is open. (it will also give a slightly lower R1+R2 than actual when switch closed)
