Discuss Help - where can I hire a MFT for a few weeks?? in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

O

Octopus

As title says, my beloved Metrel developed a fault today.

I called Metrel and yes they will look at it BUT the turn round time is 14 - 21 WORKING days.

So potentially that's a month without a tester, so I need to hire one - so looking for suggestions please!

Thanks

There's always our forum sponser (Test Meter), they hire out test equipement!!! not sure if you get the 5% discount on hires though!!! lol!!

We had some lent to us from wholesalers a few years back, one that we did lots of business with but they kept a set out back for lending out.

I have a couple of spare metrel mfts doing nothing at the moment. you could borrow one but I would think it would be a bit far for you to travel. If by some chance you are passing by give me a shout. I wouldn't charge you anything just leave me a deposit which you can have back on return.

That's a really generous offer and I appreciate it.

However I rarely travel further than 12 miles from home and I'm guessing that Durham is about 300 miles so the diesel cost would be rather a lot!

pay for postage then. a tenner should cover it.

pay for postage then. a tenner should cover it. or ... a member has posted a megger 1502 for sale. he;s down south.

I'm fairly sure my mate has bought that..... He's from guildford. He's trying his hardest to find someone to show him the ropes to fit around his current job, Take him out one day a week as experience and I know he'd lend you it!! Lol

Had the same problem my Metrel went faulty been sent away just over a year old and they are trying to charge me £200 + vat to fix it. So much for there 3 year warranty

UPDATE:

So I called a couple of online retailers and the weekly rate is about £70 + carriage.

A mate has a spare unit which currently isn't calibrated, so I'm going to get it calibrated for him, plus get some new leads and we're both happy!

Thanks to all the helpful input!
