Discuss INDUSTRIAL FIRE ALARM in the Security Alarms, Door Entry and CCTV (Public) area at ElectriciansForums.net

I don't see what the relevance of some of the questions being asked...The OP has asked a question and from this people have gathered he's not up to the job and shouldn't be carrying out such work etc....Because the OP doesn't understand how the system works doesn't mean he lacks the ability to install a system...It happens a lot on sites, someone designs and commissions the system and the sparks on site do the 1st and 2nd fixing. There is no harm in trying to get a better understanding of how it works from the forum.....

Cheers mate. The system has been designed and planned in accordance with all relevant regs and docs. Im installing as instructed by my boss who isnt always on site. Its not difficult but its easy to 'be a robot' and just install parrot fashion.....just trying to learn as I go :-D

Maybe if he had been clearer with the first post like in #23 then maybe that would not have happened because it gave the impression he was doing this ad hoc.

Any way ........

If there are diodes installed in the radial circuit , then presumably it achieves a half wave signal at the panel ? or it it DC ?

basically, the diode in the detector base is there to preserve the loop continuity if the head is removed, so that although the system is in "fault", the rest of the loop detectors can still signal the panel to activate "fire".

HI AGAIN ALL

INSTALLING INDUSTRIAL FIRE ALARM FOR FIRST TIME. FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS BY MATE.

CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN HOW THEY WORK ?

I THOUGH THEY HAD AN EOL RESISTOR TO GIVE A FIXED RESISTANCE VALUE THAT THE PANEL WOULD MONITOR. BUT WHEN INSTALLING HEAT DETECTORS EACH HEAD SEEMS TO HAVE A RESISTER IN IT.

IS THIS CORRECT ? WHY IS IT THERE ?

TIA

Ssshh, Stop shouting we're trying to sleep :D

It's worth mentioning the installer must be "competent" as specified by the regs. You should also know the difference between part 1 and part 6. You need to read both.
Should something go wrong you would need to prove your competence. Due to questions I think you will find this tough.
There must be a design document which the designer must give the installer. If you do not have this document you must not install.
Once you have this a competent person can install, but must complete an installation certificate, Document variations to design, create installed diagram and provide test results.
You should fully expect there to be design limitations as the designer may not have been to site. Therefore you must be able to revise design.
It's not as simple as just putting heads on the ceiling, you need to take account of drop beams, light fittings, proximity to walls. Ceiling heights, distance between sensors. Which is different depending on type of sensor being used.
My advise is get yourself on some courses, most leading manufacturers do them for free, e.g. Apollo and Kentec. Both really good.
I also recommend the IFEDA courses, really good value and run by guys who really know their stuff.
Once you've completed some courses you will realise why you should not be doing this.
