Hi all,

Read the forum daily, have done for a good while now,so be nice  .. I have arranged to meet up with my assessor from college to start my nvq level 3 portfolio.. When i asked about the cost ( as i am footing the bill myself ) his reply was we will talk about that Monday.. Anybody have a rough figure? I have heard 900.. And up to 2500!!

Thank you

Matthew

about £500 i'd say. Is it through a proper college or a training provider? Sounds like a training provider, if this is the case, then he'll want the face to face so that he can give you the full sales pitch and put the pressure on you to sign up that day

A competent and vocationally skilled assessor should prepare you for assessment effectively. Two examples of evidence for each criteria need to be collected and reviewed. If the assessor prepares you properly then he can carry out a holistic assessment - in other words achieve massess of criteria, which must of course be genuine.

I would price that to take me three working days for travelling, meetings and visiting you on site in total - so I would charge £750.

You may find assessors that work incompetently where they simulate evidence just to collect their 'ticks' or you may find unorganised assessors that need to keep re-visiting you, costing you stupid amounts of money.

it was £980 from my college but you did not have to pay anymore, I don't under stand how some of these online ones don't even come see you to see if you do the work lol

They create loopholes in what was originally a very good idea.

The problem isn't so much the companies, it's the accreditors that support the idea, such as C&G and EAL.
EAL have gone one further recently by announcing that they are creating simulations and assessment specs so that training centres can deliver the NVQ 3 portfolio in centre - they have done this to cater for the delegate that is not currently in the industry. But at the end of the day the assesment is carried out through simulation which is supposed to be a big NO NO for authenticity in an NVQ portfolio.

Thanks for the replys! Its through Swansea college.. My friend is on the old NVQ and he payed 900.. But i was told the new NVQ is anywhere up to 2000+..

Most college NVQs ive seen have been fixed price, I dont know what sort of conversation you had with the assesor, breif or informal but it sounds a little blase to me when your talking about hitting the wallet, a quick google of nvq 3 in the subject should throw up loads of college prices for comparison.
