HI all,

changing a board in a commercial warehouse and they need a 16amp feed to a new roller door, there is an armored there that will do it and I'm fitting a new shnieder board with RCBO's, am i best fitting a 3 phase MCB in the board or a RCD commando by the door?

Cheers
Grand

RCD protection required on sockets. not required on lighting or fixed equipment unless other factors mandate their use..

Even in domestic it’s not a case of stick an rcd on everything.

sockets, lighting, everything in bathrooms.
Every other circuit it depends on wiring method. (Buried under 50mm etc etc)

I understand commercial and industrial may seem a very different electrical environment which to some degree they can be but they are still covered by the same regulations that we use on domestic, running an SWA in domestic to a fixed equipment usually wouldn't warrant RCD protection unless the manufacturers guidance stipulated it.

I assume the shutter is hard wired and not on a socket which many are now.
They want a16amp commando socket

Regarding the SWA in domestic or any other equipment I would always put it on an RCD it's harder not to these days but I see what you mean

Thanks forthe replys

So should we put it in the board or one in the commando socket ??

Or should I just leave them a adaptable box there and then they have to sort it , rang the door bloke to see what amperage he wanted and he said 16amp three phase commando socket .

The RCD needs to be at the door, then when the Door maintainer trips it, it can easilly be reset, instead of them having to call out someone who knows where it's fed from.

All of the new door installations and any with significant upgrades that I came across in the last ten years or so had to be on Commando's sited next to the Door control box.
It's either a change in a B.S or since the introduction of electronic controllers.

You need to ask the installer as I said many of these are now at high level by the shutter mechanism. If it is high level I would not be fitting an rcd at the socket position.

high level commando socket dedicated to the door. no RCD required. maybe a RA to cover your arse.

is the door going to be 1 phase or 3 phase. ? the 3 phase ones I'vecome across need a 5 pin socket.so a 5 core SWA as well.
