Discuss Safe approach to burying an unused T&E? in the DIY Electrical Advice area at ElectriciansForums.net

As title suggests, I've removed what a T&E has been used for, so it's now just a live cable. I've terminated it and boxed it (for now), but this needs burying and skimming over.

I think the right way according to regs is to trace it back, make sure it's dead then pull the cable out of the wall.

But the wall is freshly skimmed, so I'm wondering would it be OK to terminate it inside a block, wrap it with tape, and cover it with a metal pattress box which is the other way around?

No, it cannot be hidden in a wall. You could terminate it in a back box with a blanking plate though.

That surprises me, since it'd be a lot more protected from random screws than the cable itself is at any other point of the circuit.

Either way, I'm going to do what's safest here and take your advice, thanks

The point being that cables can only be run in prescribed zones. Once you remove the accessory it means nobody will ever know that a live cable may be buried there, and so may drill straight into it.

Ah ye that's a good point! That makes sense. Thanks again mate
