Evening all you experienced fella's,
Completed a EICR today and at the cooker isolator on the load side was a 2.5mm2 running up to a single socket at the ceiling (Dual RCD DB, the cooker is a 6mm on a 32A 60898). Asked the customer what this is for "a local spark put it there for an extractor fan so that I always have the fan on whilst cooking. Then, at the shower isolator on the load side, stuffed in with the 10mm there was a 1.5mm2 supplying the extract fan for the bathroom. The customer said the same "the same local spark put it there so that I always have the fan on when I'm showering", the shower is a 10mm on a 40A 60898! I totally get what and why she wants it and I know they will only be for a short period, but this "spark" has no concept of CCC's!! Why not make life easier for yourself and use the local lighting circuit anyway?!! It's still bloomin' dangerous, i'm not being pedantic am I? Any of you older, more experienced sparks seen this, Did people use to do it?
Cheers

Not really...I've seen a fused down fan and light in 2.5 10 inches from the load side of a bathroom isolator 10mm 50a mcb 9.5kw shower 15w fan 100w light 3 amp fuse. never seen your cooker situation tho...

With the cooker example, I wouldn't do it myself, but it's not really any different to a spur from a ring final circuit. The plug top will have a fuse so the fan is protected and as it's a fixed load the 2.5mm cable only needs short circuit protection rather than overload protection.

The shower fan is another thing though. For starters, the fan manufacturers instructions probably require a 3A fuse before even thinking about the cable size and whether it would be damaged under fault conditions

quite common with cooker circuits, single socket will limit the load to 13amps. same story as a spur on a 32A ring circuit.

lazy lazy job with the fan, in case it decides to get broken then it may get nasty... will do with 3a fused spur on the way.
