What about fixing a fault so that a hardworking family (where both parents are Keyworkers) can cook their Turkey ??
that would then make you a key worker so you can carry on with impunity.

Mask wearing makes no sense whatsoever with the exception of health workers in close proximity to those who are symptomatic, I.e. coughing particles right in your face.

If you're symptomatic you should not be out, no need for masks.

The virus is not airborne, it is transmitted by surface contact. Cleaning surfaces and hand sanitation are very good precautions.

I'd do however always wear a mask when out, as I have not the courage of my convictions, and my missus is plod and will bang me up.

You're in the wrong job, as the government has been advised by their specialists that it is airborne, and masks do indeed help. You must know better?

The premise behind this is that masks will stop droplets as opposed to particles of the virus. Studies do show how masks disrupt the flow of exhaled air, but none demonstrate actual effectiveness in reducing transmission of viral particles. Those droplets dry out quickly and no one can provide empirical evidence to demonstrate what happens then.

Manufacturers don't generally make claims that their masks will trap viral particles, and nor should they, as such information must be backed up with hard facts. Given the size of an average viral particle, trapping them with even a P3 mask would be like catching a fly in a football net.

I wear a mask on the rare occasion I need to go into a shop. Not because I believe that it provides much benefit to me or others, but because it might make a few people feel happier about buying groceries and because I prefer not to draw attention to myself. Basic hygeine measures and some distance are likely to be much more effective and I find that many people seem to think those simple measures are no longer necessary when they don a mask.

Are really visual demonstration how brilliantly effective masks are at stopping respiratory droplets being coughed / sneezed into the air

Plenty of information dealing with their effectivess at stopping droplets, but none want to address what happens when those droplets dry out and they will dry out quickly.

Pseudo-science isn't science.

Totally agree !! I call them 'immunity masks' as the general public seem to think that when you have one on... you are instantly immune. This probably explains the large increase in the infection rate since the wearing of masks became the norm.

I don't have that much faith in so called 'specialists' or 'experts'.

Unrelated to covid and masks... but I recently read a story about wood burning stoves and how unhealthy they are. Some scientists had installed air quality measuring devices in a room that contained a wood burning stove... and noticed that the air quality decreased when the stove was in use. Interesting thought...

I pondered this for a while...

Surely, when a stove is lit.. and fired correctly with the door shut... the stove draws air into the combustion process, which then goes up the flue. In fact so much air is needed that the building regs are involved as you need to ensure that it can be taken from somewhere. So this apparent decrease in air quality is probably because far more air is being drawn in from outside ! not due the stove producing bad things that enter the room. By the very nature of how a stove works, there's an airflow into the stove, then up the flue.

I've clearly missed something with all this... as I'm not a scientist, specialist or expert in stoves...

If anyone could correct my logic on this... I would be grateful...

Correct !

It does assume the fire box correctly sealed and flued. I’m thinking the fire box sealing may not be perfect as the wood burners door is opened an closed a lot more times than say a gas boiler combustion chamber. The combustion chamber is sealed at the factory and Mr Gas-Safe restores that seal after servicing. The flue has both an exhaust and an inlet for fresh air so the air in the room is not depleted of oxygen over time.
