synchronised wiring of a domestic home

Hi Guys
A friend of mine's neighbour has just had a rewire of his house and every night his outside light comes on every few minutes and flashes on and off, she has asked him to sort it out and he says it'll be difficult as it's a "synchronised"system that's controlled from a device in the loft..... I've never heard of this has anybody else??

Difficult or not. He needs to sort it. And no I’ve never heard of this synchronised system.

Unless it's not that at all and it's just a standalone light trying to 'fire' so to speak

many Pir’s turn the output on for a few seconds on power up as a self test.
I suspect that the supply to the pir(s) is fed from either a central timer or a central dusk till dawn sensor.

so each of the parts are probably working as they should but the design of the system is poor and leads to the lights coming on briefly at dusk.

edit, just re read post, if this is happening every few minutes, it is simply not right.
I would be telling the spark that it doesn’t work correctly and difficult or not, they need to sort it out.

Could be a dawn to dusk sensor being interfered with by another light source or even the light source it is switching but without more info difficult to say.

Would that be common though timer + pir , would make sense your explanation then

Dusk to dawn and pir ? Doesn't pir already incorporate dusk to dawn , no ?

Yes I was thinking a common timer or dusk till dawn sensor feeding the pir(s)
most but not all outdoor pir have dusk till dawn sensors but they can normally be turned off.

You can incorporate a timer into the output of the sensor a lot of commercial sites do this to stop light pollution. A sensor will keep the lights on all night but using a timer can switch them off before dawn.

Sensor before timer so you're not inadvertently triggering the sensor with the timer

The timer only switches the switched output of the sensor.

Also a pir feeding a self -test pir could make sense also , maybe from a pir on the landing

Whatever it is, and how it’s been wired …. It’s obviously not right.

They need to come back and fix.

Would like to see a video of this, if possible.

Sounds like some sort of timer/PIR/sensor mash up.

I wonder if it is an LED cctv which has a DVR in the loft. If the LED is not set correctly at the DVR it will flash on and off.

It could also be as simple as a loose connection!!

Whether it's a fault, done by design or something interfering with it, it can be and will need to be sorted before the neighbours complain to the Local Authority.
Artificial light nuisance is covered in the Environmental Protection Act.

I have heard of synchronised, swimming, dancing, diving and lots of other things, but synchronised wiring is a new one on me. ?
