I have recently carries out some testing for a kitchen fitter. He has to submit a test cert to napit... They have sent it back sayin there must be r1+r2 results AND r2 results. I was always lead to believe it was one or the other.
Anyone wiling to enlighten me.
Chris

Strictly speaking lower case r1 and lower case r2 results are the resitance values for ring final circuit conductors....

If you've certified a ring final circuit, r1 (line), rn (neutral) and r2 (CPC) end to end resistance values need to be noted.

For continuity of the circuit protective conductor you can eith use the R1+R2 method or R2 method. Whichever you don't use, simply put an 'N/A' in the box and ask them why they want both results!

i assume you mean R1+R2, and R2. you record 1 or t'other, not both. even says so on the SOTR.top of the columns.

probably done a 3 week limited scope course. and i also can't understand why sent cert. to napit.

If the inspector identifies parallel paths that can't be easily cured - then a simple tick can surfice in either box. So it doesn't have to be one or the other, it can be neither and just a simple tick instead of results. But, usually it's one or the other...more often that not the R1+R2 instead of R2.

Never test other peoples work - it lands you in the sh!t if he's wired something wrong.

If this kitchen fitter is such an electrician why doesn't he get himself on the 2395 course? Either that, or he shouldn't be touching the electrics in the first place.

Thanks for your replies.
I don't test his work. Basically he installs kitchens for b&q. I do the electrical work. This is the 1st job i've done for him. But it's b&q who insist on a test certificate being sent to napit for check basically. I'm with elecsa myself. It's a load of tedious nonsense but got to do what we've got to do (unfortunately)
Thanks again!

R1+R2 or R2 for Radial circuits
r1,rn,r2 and R1+R2 for ring final circuits

they talking out there behind
show then GN3 and a copy of generic schedule of test results

and as your with Elecsa then its nothing to do with napit you jsut have to notify through your scheme
you dont send copies to elecsa so why should they have one lol
the original is given to customer and or a copy to client and you retain a copy thats it charge if they want a copy sent to napit

That sounds weary and I am confused. If you are with Elecsa, why do you not send YOUR notification to Elecsa? I cannot see why NAPIT get it when it is you doing the work??

B&Q approached us a couple of years back offering us regular work to wire up new kitchen installations- apparently NAPIT are the only scam that they will work with, regardless of who you're registered with

It's a nightmare. I still have to notify through elecsa and do my own Certs. But the kitchen fitter has to have an affiliation with napit and a cert has to be sent to them. It's a load of bull but works work. I am hoping to speak to them tomorrow and clarify things one way or another. I'll let you all know... I'm sure you'll all wait with baited breath lol
