Morning all, couple of things hopefully advice may be forthcoming on

1. A 16mm SWA will need to be made off into a Crabtree CU, The SWA is already in position coming from above, The way the (Plastic) Crabtree CU is moulded in the top section does not lend itself to glanding a SWA cable, its all very flimsy. question is what is the best way to adapt from 16mm SWA to possibly 2 16mm Tails, The armour is to be used for earthing so that would need to be adapted as well.

2. I live in a cottage type place with a few outbuildings etc, Its a reasonably secure place, however i want to build in a few tricks.
Basically when nobody is home overnight I want to have some INDOOR lights come on (say Landing and bathroom) by way of PIR from outside in the backyard (intruder would activate), but would also want the lights to act under normal switching when house is being used by occupants. does this sound possible without complicated switching etc??

Fed up of hearing stories where an outdoor flood only helps intruders see the booty, and feel if i was in an intruders shoes and some lights came on inside the house unbeknown to the fact the intruder set them off i would probably scarper quickly.

Opinions advice greatly appreciated

for the SWA, fit an adaptable box above the CU and gland into the top of that, leaving your SWA tails long enough to reach through the box into the CU main switch.for the PIR. you would wire the switched L from the PIR into the light you wanted to activate. install the PIR on the same circuit as the light. if your lights are on 2 circuits, ujp and down, forget switching the landing light, as you can only use the PIR on 1 circuit, unless you involve relays/contactors.

I agree with Telectrix, into an adaptable box and either terminate of run through to the CU.

For PIR switching use a 2-way switch
1/ Live to L1 looped onto PIR L
2/ Switch L2 to PIR
3/ Common C to Light/s
4/N to PIR and Light

It works ok as a master switch on one circuit. So you could change the configuration of the lighting day by day. That will baffle the would be burgler

While I think you have a good idea I reckon a determined burglar could figure out "Hmmm every time I get to this point that light comes on" Now if you could use the PIR to trigger a sampled noise of a big dog barking that could be more offputting since every burglar knows a dog has more sensetive hearing than us. They also know, some from bitter experience, that with a big dog comes big pointy teeth.
I agree with the other guy's methods re your SWA.

What about a PIR activated gate switch which releases a pack of real staffordshire bull terriers........Wuf, Wuf

Once they've finished fighting over which one's going to tear off the burgler's balls that should give / her him time to get a couple of yards before they actually do !

The thing is Ackbar the burglar has rights these days, one of which is probably to be not ripped apart by savage dogs. Never mind our right to protect our homes and families but thats no doubt a subject for a hanging and flogging forum
