Hi, im considering studying for an ONC but need some info on what type of jobs I can realistically expect to get once ive passed. I already have C&G 2360 pt's 1&2 (not NVQ3 thou). I have good experience working as an electrician (mostly industrial/commercial).

I would like to find a job thats more involved in the testing /design side of things. Would an ONC give me a good chance of obtaining such work? any advice from anyone who already has an ONC, and how its enabled them to progress from an "install spark" would be much appreciated. Thanks

J

You're better off doing a level 4 qual I would have thought. HNC or maybe the easier C&G design.

I would also compete your NVQ3.

what he said ^^^^. ONC is just a step above O levels.

ONC is not worth much to be honest. A HND would get you a job as a technician but a degree would be far more useful and get you a job as an Engineer. Remember, in this country and rest of Europe you cannot call yourself an Engineer without having a relevant degree.

A good HND could and would hold you in good stead to obtain a junior Engineer position.... Before 1999 it was possible to gain ''Chartered Engineer'' status with a good HND coupled with a verified appropriate number of years experience of holding a responsible position...
