So what are your thoughts?

Over 100 schools in England closed, 40 or so in Scotland after a building material with a projected lifespan of 30-40 years has started to fail well after its projected lifespan.

Media induced panic yet again comes to mind.

As far as I can tell, there has already been a programme of inspections of these types of buildings, and it’s been a single collapse over the summer which has brought about a sudden closure of many buildings.
This is what health and safety is for. There’s no point complaining that it should have been done already… and so close to the kids going back….

Some of the general public / parents don’t have a scooby when interviewed at the school gates by journalists.
I think I heard one mum say something like: “he’s going to have 3 days off school…. What are we going to doooo?”

Um… same thing you’ve done for the past 6 weeks??

The councils are doing the right thing by closing the buildings Until safety checks have been done.
Seems not good enough in some eyes.

And the “specialists” they get… one says this material was everywhere… walls, floors, roofs…. Let’s all panic!!!
Another said only the top floor ceiling if a flat roof…. And only dangerous if water got in and rusted the rebar.
Oh, much like a timber roof then? If water got in, rots the wood and collapses…

The shadow government… ie, Labour have put their foot down again and demanded that a list of all affected schools is published… probably will demand someone resign over this… as that’s their answer to everything.

Why publish a list?

The affected schools have been contacted. The affected buildings have been temporarily closed and the affected users of the buildings have been moved elsewhere.
What would publicly naming the schools achieve?

So what are they arguing about?

A. This stuff should never have been used in the first place?
B. The buildings should have been replaced/ repaired within the 30 year lifespan?
C. They should have closed the buildings before now/ shouldn’t have closed the building so close to start of term?
