This popped up yesterday... Comedy of errors, health and safety and people having bugger all knowledge of electricity!
Stanley Christmas tree pulled down after lights were switched over fears vandals could be electrocuted | Mail Online
A customer of mine has received an electric shock from holding an LED light in one hand and touching a fridge in the other hand. Should I be concerned about my LED lights? They are made with an aluminium chassis but I can hold them normally and have never received a shock. All comments are much...
Evening fellas
halfway thru an inspection on a 11 room hotel, found quite a few C1 & C2 but was wondering about this:-
In the main entrance hall there is a "fuse box" about 7ft from the floor level, i use the term fuse box lightly, it contains 5 porcelain 15A fuses, it has no main switch and...
I was sent this morning to do an EICR on a void house in the northwest. When I got there I was horrified to see exposed live parts see pic.
Why on earth would you leave something in such a state.
Just been to a property (new build) and saw this:
Full list of problems:
· The outlet pipe from the toilets terminates in the attic directly next to the extractor fans for both bathrooms, the condensation from this pipe has leaked all into the extractor fans where a puddle had formed –...

So about two months ago now, I got a call from a customer asking if I could do a few bits, "of course" I said. She asked for a rough price to change one pendant for two and install a new socket. I said roughly £100 depending on RCD, Bonding, blah blah blah... and we arranged a date (about a week...
I have had some re-wiring, new sockets etc done by a charming electrician. One of the things I had done was install a heated towel rail, Dimplex. I would upload a photo but I think I need to have posted 6 posts before that, however I will try and paint a picture instead.

Got asked to look at this by a family who had just moved into their bungalow and thought it might be prudent to get it checked out. Can't believe some one would leave this, especially with children in the house. The moral of the story would be don't buy cheap nasty plugs?
When we first moved into our house about 16 years ago the whole of the downstairs power, including the kitchen was re-wired by Eastern Electricity. The ancient fuse box was replaced to a Wylex consumer unit (I think 12 way) with mcb's and 1 rcd in it.
Also power was added to the loft...

Asked to put a new 32amp cooker circuit into an old wylex 6 way board. Explained that I needed to split meter tails and install a new CU with RCD protection for cooker. Suggested a new CU for the whole house but customer unwilling to pay and insists on wiring new cooker circuit to old board...
What access gear do others use when working at height , and how high would you deem it safe to still work from a ladder ?
Also whats the worst case of daft and dangerous behaviour that you have come across by other people working at height .:38:
....wired as single phase, but with L3 used for neutral. I know this is poor practice, but is it actually dangerous? Whole wing of the large facility I work in is so wired "to prevent non_inducted personnel using these service plugs." I did not like, and just used my battery drill.
Hi I recently had an electrician do a bit of re-wiring to a light switch, however he has run the wires horizontally from the light switch to the fuse box. One of my friends has had a look and said this is dangerous as the wires should go up through the ceiling or down through the...

On a distribution board last week in a farm house, I saw 2 core 4mm SWA with the sheath terminated by having a couple of strands in a terminal block.
A photo would save a thousand words, but I found out on that day that my camera phone is not waterproof =-(

Had a bit of a scrap on site yesterday with the site foreman after the plumber decided to go drilling underfloor heating pipes about 20mm away from my main rise of CU cables - and there's a lot of them!
I wanted to, and can (still) see no good reason not to, move the plumbing feed over one...
I got a call from a mate of mine on friday, he's a joiner with a client who bought a smaller place after their kids moved out and want a new CU. So I bowl up yesterday to take a look thinking "Yes this is the major job I need for my DI ticket" (Don't worry guys I'm fully qualified)
There's...
