Bit confused, have a 110v grinding machine and a Caroll and meynor 110v transformer
this one
Portable Transformer with 2 Output Sockets 3kVA | NoLinkingToThis

ive hooked the two together but the grinder is running slow. I checked the voltage reading across the two poles and it reads 56v.
Whats this all about then, faulty transformer? its rated 3KV/a and the grinder is only around 200Watts.

Any suggestions

you should get 55V from each pole to E. the E terminal is centre tapped so then you get 110V L-L.

thanks.
So I am out of my field of knowledge here.
The grinder is a normal usa plug domestic machine. How do i wire up the plug to get 110v out of the transformer.
:)

Your plug will have two small pins and a bigger one. My guess is that your grinder is connected to one small pin and the large (earth) pin. Connect the two grinder wires to the two small pins and you should be OK.

Tony's more the man for motors, but if you're trying to run a US 110V 60Hz motor from a 50Hz centre tap 230-110V TX then I can think of a few things that might go wrong!

no. the 2 flat pins on the plug are the ones that run the machine. the round one is E. however, as has been pointed out, the machine will probably be designed to run at 60Hz.

the 300w rating is the max. that the converter will supply, so it should be OK on your machine as long as the outlet socket matches your plug.

correct it would run a bit slower @50 hz
the grinder being rated @60hz would run at 80 percent (approximate)

have to bribe the guys at the power station to pedal a bit faster. 3600rpm instead of 3000. :wheelchair:

grinder has to run at correct speed....too slow = problems and maybe dangerous as well due to sticking.....too fast = dangerous as well due to maximum disk spindle speed....

why do you have a USA model grinder here when there are plenty of cheap ones for sale in the UK? I'm only asking that as it's what an American would say if you took UK tools over there...

voltage converter may modify the frequency depending on model, might work ok...

Actually its a gemstone lapping grinder not available in uk. It will be ok if it runs slower.
