DOL starter overload calculation

Hi can anyone tell me the calculation for above? Got the last day of my install of my AM2 tomorrow can't remember from college and havnt had much luck searching, cheers.

110% of the motor FLC (sometimes called FLA)

No calculation required. The motor plate gives you the FLC, this is what you set the thermal O/L to.

John that went out with the ark or dash pot O/L’s. Thermal O/L’s do not require a correction, it's built in.

Thanks tony. That's what I was taught, and Im only 25. I've only ever seen old oil dash pot ol's. I'm at that job tommorow, I'll try and get photos.

Even recently I was told to set the thermal trip on a VSD to 105% of FLC. Is that correct, or more old wives tales

Please get the photo’s as I want to do a post on overloads. I must have worked on hundreds of them years and don’t have a single photo of them.

Some of the Metropolitan Vickers units came with a brass label stating the % rating along with the viscosity / time delay. They were a swine to set up. One motor in particular I had to blend my own oil for the pots.

The oils available were:
100 cSt (clear)
200 cSt (red)
500 cSt (can’t remember)
1000 cSt (yellow)
Viscosity was measured in Stokes

For the VSD, all I can say is go by the data given with the unit.
