A missing lid 40 years ago would still have been unacceptable...

In fact standards 30-40 years ago were very much better than they often are today

It’s only due to years of bad maintenance and diy interference most older installations get completely trashed

It is indeed there are fire alarm cables hanging everywhere I'm not even sure the alarm itself is there anymore. Red and black 2 core flex also has both cores connected to the earth bar whatever it is doing
