Saw this yesterday whilst installing some IT network cables at a prestigious private school as part of a student accommodation renovation project. This is the top of a CU, not sure what IP rating this is to but it don’t comply with BS 7671🙈

I'm not clear on what they have done to the top of the CU. We can see the holes hacked in the intumescent strip laid on top, which is hiding the CU itself, but the general darkness suggests large holes underneath or even one big slot. Did they think that sticking the intumescent over the top made everything good?

I thought it was real class putting the envirograf over the top, no glands or even metal zip ties on the basket that’s above CU either, and as for the all metal banding that secures the conductors above the CU just made the perfect tri-fector for me, and these cowboys are supposed to be qualified Electricians!
I also got a Blanc look when I asked how they had managed to circumvent the current regs with regard to AFDD’s as there are non fitted to any of the consumer units in the accomodation blocks, I even quoted the 421.1.7 requirements as I believe it’s a purpose built student accommodation at least if not a HMO.
