Hi guys,
When performing an earth continuity test on class 1 appliances can you get away with just using a 200mA current on every piece of equipment?
Having been on the 2377 course they say to use 1.5 times the fuse rating upto 26A for non IT.
Need clarification as to what is right...
Hi all
Just got a metrel mi3000. Was using it today to test a new cu job. But I'm confused...when I do continuity tests on a ring I can do tests on the crossed line and neutral using the plug adaptor but I can't use the plug adapter to do test on crossed earth and line!?
This means I have to...
Much discussed issue this one. Appreciate any comments.
I let a small one bed flat out. Electric only ie no gas.
Year back I had a new CU put in with all circuits on RCD's (RCBO for lighting). Accompanied by an EICR. Registered ECA sparks did the work.
The EICR documents that the mains...
Hello there,
I'm currently taking my Level 3 and have been given an assignment to do which I have all most finished but I was wondering if anyone could use their infinite electrical knowledge and help me out with 3 faults that I need to identify and rectify? I will lay out below what I have so...

Hi all , was doing a periodic on a domestic board. First I got 75V between the main earth and bonding earth . There was a L/E fault after clearing the fault I've tested between earths and now getting 8V. Is that acceptable , or is it still a fail .
Thanx in advance.
Are there any circumstances when it might be acceptable to tick the "Continuity and Connection Verified" box of the Electrical Installation Certificate when there is no visual or physical access to the point at which the bonding (normally a clamp in domestic) is applied. If so what checks over...
Hi all had a weird one today, actually make it two, tested ringfinal continuity at the board lives were 0.00 and so were neutrals, earths were the same too, not sure why, is it a ring that has been interconnected causing a duff reading??
Secondingly tested another property's ringfinal circuit...
To do a R1+R2 test you connect the Line and Cpc together and test at the furthest point.
But on the test sheet I have there is also a box for just an R2 test aswell, how do you correctly do just an R2 test?
I noticed some sparking coming off the probe during earth continuity tests on class 1 devices when the probe is touched to the metal casing. I placed a clamp meter over the probe and got readings of up to 10 amps. I can also feel a vibration from the probe lead during the earth c test. It's...
hi guys i really need your help on this one,
I just sat the 2395 inspection and testing certificate( replacing the old 2391), but it was really hard and wanted to know if i could sit the 2391?
But does the 2391 still run on the same format as asking the questions , i.e, procedure for...
My company does not allow us to use our own voltage/continuity testers. Instead we must use the ones they provide for us. They're pretty cheap but do the job well enough.
I have had my testers for just over a year and the label says that I shouldn't use them after that time so I handed them...

Just spent a frustrating day fault finding and still left scratching my head, was wondering if anyone else had experienced something similar!
The kitchen we had been working in had been a proper DIY job (diagonal cable chases, no earth sleeving etc etc etc) so we were testing a ring circuit to...
whilst doing ring continuity i have no end to end on cpc also on isulation test live earth im getting 9.50Meg ohmson the same ring are these two results to do with the same problem if so how can i go about finding the fault am i right in saying that if i spilt the ring at one of the sockets then...

Hi. be nice for some feed back on this. I'm testing a ring main for an eicr. I know that the cpc reading should be around the 1.6 times higher than the live conductors but I'm getting 0.66 on live, 0.67 on neutral and 0.61 on cpc. I'm wondering, if the cpc are connected through the metal k.o box...
Im currently studying electrical and im up to dead tests.
ive reached continuity of ring final circuit on my scenario cd , in therory i understand the procedure and what to do but im a little un sure on finding the mid point on the sockets .
please can sombody go threw it step by step in...
Hi, Just went round to a customer who wants the ring extended in the garage, Prelim checks found no continuity on live, OK on E&N. When power is on 240V on each leg. Will go back and look further, customer said everything was unplugged but thought I would ask if anyone had come across this...
Morning all. I'm about to set off to a cellar conversion. The gas, water and electric incomers are all in opposite corners of the cellar. In the next few days it's all going to be plasterboarded, which will conceal the bonding conductors permanently, although the actual earth clamps (i.e. the...
Hi there,
I am new on here,Great place !
Can someone explain to me how to do an earth continuity test and earth loop test on an electric cooker where the cooker point is already installed.
Our college tutor has asked us to find out the info for next weeks lesson ,where we will be asked...
