Hi all,
I have done an insulation resistance test on a ring final circuit today and when I do L - N I'm getting 0.01Mohm. Checked all sockets for loose connections but found nothing. I plan on splitting the ring tomorrow and testing each individual length from socket to socket. It's gonna be a...
Hi guys new to this website just a quick question as it has been a while I have a small 6 way distribution board this only becomes live via a time clock supply wired into it I'm going to be testing this board with a IR dead test on each circuit just to make sure according to guidance note 3 & on...
Hello All wondering if anyone could shed some light on a problem i have with my IR readings.
I recently rewired a house.. took care pulling cables in etc . finished 1st fix, checked cables by looping ring main in connector blocks and doing continuity and IR test . continuity was ok, IR read...

Hi all i was wondering if anyone could shed some light on my problem. Came to test a ring circuit today L-L 1.23 ohms N-N 1.23 ohms E-E 1.98 R1+R2 0.73 then i did my insulation resistance tests L-N 500 ohms N-E 500 ohms then L-E 0.00. Nothing plugged in, only a few sockets connected the rest in...

Hi Guy after your best advice, been along to see a customer who is having trouble with his system which has been up and running for just over Four years and the original installers are no longer in business.
He has approx a 17kw system of Schott Asi 105 w panels on the roof Appox 162 info...
Any suggestions on an earth resistance tester which will not break the bank? Anyone got or used one of these UNI-T UT521 Digital Earth Resistance Tester
I have recently come across a situation whereby instead of running a main equipotential bonding conductor from the MET to the incoming water someone had instead ran a short bond from the MET to some copper pipe in the mains cupboard and clamped it and then placed a bond on the pipe near the...
hi all, just looking at upgrading a george ellison old fillled rotary resistance starter on our forging hammer (the starter is pre-war 1924) the contacts are worn and the mechanical lever springs are also worn been temp fixing it for a year or 2 now, the motor is a 3ph 415v slip ring motor (big...
Hi,
I'm after a bit of advice. British gas installing a new boiler, refused to install as fault on electrical system. The RCD trips when performing an ELI test. I've had a quick look tonight, TT system, rcd tests out ok. IR was 10 Mohms on all circuits except downstairs socket where...
Hi, quick question for you all, do u think it is posssible to have an ins res reading of 0.02 on live earth of a lighting circuit which includes em. lighting but neutral earth is above 10 megohms ? There is low voltage track lighting also installed on the circuit.
Also can anyone explain the...
When you do the continuity test on a ring final circuit and you have to connect L1 to N2 and vice versa, this assumes you know which L cable is the incoming or outgoing.
I understand that if you connect L1 to N1 and vice versa the ohm readings rise then fall as you go round the ring circuit...
If when carrying out a "whole instalation" test from L+N to Earth the result is say 50 Megohms, and there are ,say,5 circuits would that mean that ALL the circuits pass the test or do each one still need testing?
Hi,
I am getting a reading of Live to Live = 195 MOhms
Live to Earth = 0.75 MOhms at the distribution board I am working on a Highway depot.
Are these acceptable values?
If not... what do I to?
Thanks,
Lasowski101
Just want to see what other sparks think my nephew who is in his last year was telling me that there tutor was telling them that when your doing 3 phase circuits you use the 1000v range ???????????? Your thoughts please
I'm thinking of buying a combined IR and continuity meter for fault finding on domestic and commercial installations. I'd like something that's smaller, lighter and easier to handle than my Fluke MFT and fairly robust. It would also act as a partial backup in the event that the MFT is out of...
Just finished installing some low voltage downlights to an existing circuit , I'm going to test tomorrow to save disconnecting the lamps/transformers I was going to test LN-E 500v on the insulation resistance test , what do I have to write on the minor works certificate and where to show that...
Hi
I have a earth fault on a customers drive with 30 drive over fittings.
The swa runs past each fitting and has a resin branch joint, with one cable going into fitting.
Have narrowed fault down to cable by dismantling fittings etc.
Is there any tester or method of measuring from the end of cable...
I'm going round in circles with this fault. We have 12 street lighting lamp posts at our factory, 150W son lamps in each. They were on a 20A MCB and yesterday started tripping. They are basically wired from a 20A MCB (2.5mm), through a relay, out of the relay in 6mm armoured and then outside...
Hi all and thank you for letting me join the forum !! I do a bit of Pat testing at my work and have been asked to test some of the leads that attach to the IEC leads with the plug on(I.e. to make them longer). As these haven't got their own plugs do they have to be tested as surely they are only...
