Discuss Best place for UK electricians to work abroad? in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

A friend of mine moved to France a few years ago and makes a fantastic living as sparks out there.
He had to jump through a few hoops initially but is well settled now

Or claim immigrant status.

The CTA (common travel area) between UK and ROI is to the best of my knowledge still in operation. The last I heard, both governments were committed to keeping it in place.
It was more in respect of the wider suggestions , not any specific one.

It is now no longer possible to just work throughout the eu, you either need visas, or have already emigrated, or go through immigration processes.

As for the cta, who knows, no promiseses appear to be being kept.

CTA was in existence long before UK or IE joined the Common Market. I get the general scepticism about UK/EU relations, but given the fact that NI slap bang in the middle of it, this is one agreement that is likely to continue.

In other news, I like the idea of Costa Rica - fairly stable, Central America, laid back pace. No idea what re-training might be required by OP, but those hoops might be worth jumping through ?

Head to San Sebastian on La Gomera, their is quite a large ex pat presence there, plus it's hot in the daytime with temperatures above 21C in Winter time.

Be prepared though, you'll think you've gone back in time!

Oh, and if you do go, learn to whistle... ?

In Derry, but do loss of work round Donegal too. But most constitution's been closed since January with Gardaí running round like Hitler.

Up until 2 weeks ago I was being stopped four times a day by Gardai. Needed letters to verify I am going to "essential works". However, now it's down to twice a day and no longer been asked to show letter. You sense the foot is being taken off the pedal.
