To have one person to do rubbish work like that but to employ two people and is just as bad .

Looking at the photo's that work has not been done by a competent electrician. The idea is that the upgrade work should leave the installation in a safer condition not worse.

I'm yet to be convinced there were two people. But if there were, they probably met on the Screwfix forum and decided that 2 wrongs could make a profit.

People are far too trusting Mate, they tell the customer all the BS and being, perhaps naive is the wrong word, not street wise is a better explanation, they take the words of the Rouges of this industry as Gospel, it's unfortunate but sadly true for a percentage of the population, especially the aged, shame on them, hope they get their just deserts in the contracting world of the afterlife (not the aged or anyone else who has been conned by these rascals) the rascals themselves.

Hi everyone,

I just had my distributer box upgraded to an RCD box, and I was wondering if anyone could advise me on the quality of the work done here. I know that changing these boxes is a nightmare to do, and truth be told our wiring was a mess before, but for the price we payed I don't believe there should be electrical tape and exposed wires coming out of the box. Also you can see the housing for the old night electricity box which they have decided to leave and they also chose not to cover the channel with all the exposed wires. I'm just curious to see what this forum's take is on this work, and if it was worth the £700 I payed for it.

There was a point raised in the Scottish Parliament this week about making electricians a professionally registered profession and try do away with cow boys , seemingly there is a big problem with people from south of border who have completed a 3 weeks domestic installer cert getting passed off as electricians , part P realy made the issue worse as there is never enough tradesmen to cover the country

I started this thread recently about a electrical trainee

We’ve had words Says he’s a fully qualified domestic electrician. I asked what that was and he couldn’t tell me also said all his work complies with Part P!! Had to point out it doesn’t exist in Scotland!

I asked where the certificate was and he said it was on his clipboard. He did the work in May FFS. So I suggested he pass it on to the customer only to find out that he went back to the installation yesterday. He was up in the room for inexcess of 2 hours before I left the site and still no evidence of an EIC. We were working at the origin of the installation so he clearly didn’t do an external earth loop impedance gets.

Please Scotland sort these people out!

All the tape alone is a fire hazard why would u put all that tape round connections, I don’t understand why theee is no need for domestic installs to provide insurance with an eicr only rented properties are mandatory so why not all , surely all domestic should be tested as suggested 10 yearly max

First, that's totally not acceptable, a right clown job, second he's £300 at least overpriced, even if it was done right, and lastly don't pay him and get a real electrician in. Not necessarily in a scam scheme, but one who can provide real qualifications.
