Hi guys,

What plug in equipment, if any would show a dead short when doing an ir test?

I have the line and neutral connected together and testing between that and the earth bar.

The circuit was energised and working fine on arrival (doing an eicr) so it cant be an actual dead short or the mcb would have tripped.

The circuit im testing is a 16a 2.5 radial that feed sockets in various rooms some of which are ceiling high with crap so something could be plugged in and i wouldnt even know.

Cheers,
Tim

Could be anything, usuall what I find is fused connection units supplying deaf loop, intruder alarms, small P.S.U's etc.

Are you carrying out the test between LN-E and are still getting 0.00MegOhms? Can you be sure it is correct neutral mate.

If it's a short between neutral and earth, it won't trip the mcb, but will show up on a 'L+N to E' IR test.

If you are getting 0.0 Mohm then try a continuity test to see if you are missing something, if you get a reading in ohm then it is probably something about your testing method.
If there is another circuit crosslinked to this and the main switch is on then you will get 0.0 Mohms.
If you are getting say 0.5 Mohms then you are likely to have a power supply connected.
The other thing to try is test at 250V and see if the result is OK, then it may be a plug in surge protected socket.
