Discuss PV install on a credit meter in the Solar PV Forum | Solar Panels Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

I am currently looking at the viability of PV installations for local council housing.

One of the issues that has cropped up is that many of the tenants will have prepayment credit meters which will isolate the supply when credit runs out, or when the property is empty.
The council would like the benefit of the generation/export of electricity particularly when the property is empty. Is there anyway to achieve this?

The only way to be sure that generation can be continuous is to either replace the meter with a standard one or to make certain that the credit doesn't run out. Neither are particularly practical in most circumstances, unfortunately. I'm also not sure exactly how these meters react when reverse current flow is detected.

What's stopping you installing a switch over contactor like for kicking in generators :)

Compare power each side of meter if meter runs out / no power that side, switch over the supply to the inverter / output, from the other side of the the meter and bypass the meter, they'll soon put a few bob in to get their free 'leccy.

Depends who owns the meter. Supplier or landlord.

Deviuos or what !:reddevil:

The meter would almost definitely be owned by the supplier, but I like your thinking.
