Hello everyone

Can anyone recommend any good quality UV-resistannt cable for lighting. None [FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]armoured, the only cable i have seen used is the stuff in TLC direct called NYY-J, good cable but quite think, or is the only way you get it to be UV resistant cable.

I am a bit sceptical about buying cable of the internet as i am not sure what i am getting before you get it.

Thanks kyran

I wouldn't say suitable, the manufacturers info says (or at least used to say) something like if external use is unavoidable then only white may be used and should be kept out of direct sunlight. They don't really approve it for external use.

I'm sure we've all seen FP200 outside which has gone a bit crispy in the sunshine!

Yes. Seen some buried 2 cm under a lawn too, all the way across a 200ft lawn, with the red poking up every now and again. How the mower missed it...

Thank for your suggestion, could you recommend a place to buy that cable. I googled it but wondered if you know of a good place to get it from.

Personally I buy it from my local electrical wholesalers, but if you want an online source then essential supplies or 10 out of 10 productions sell it amongst others.
It's used extensively in the entertainment industry (and so am I).

I would always advise conduit weather galv or black pvc...you giving mechanical as well a uv protection. FP is a defo no...due to the air gap in the cable, will such up water like a straw.

I don't like hituff or nyy whatever you want to call it being exposed outside as, unless it has improved from years ago, it goes brittle when it gets cold.

Ho7-rnf is pretty damned tough too, will survive being clipped to the outside of a house or other location with a low likelihood of serious impact.
