Scenario: Commercial TPN distribution board down stream requiring type2/3 protection. Board is at full capacity and breakers discontinued etc. how are people getting around this? is it acceptable to be doubling up in the supply side of the main switch to feed separate enclosure with triple pole switch to control supply to SPD? cant see any reason why this would not be acceptable as long as ccc is met and connection is electrically and mechanically sound , interested to hear your thoughts

thanks

If the incoming supply is already fused at a level to meet the SPD's OCPD requirement then it seems a reasonable solution.

Is there any means of isolation before the board (if you are tapping off before the main switch)?

Can you keep the SPD cable lengths down to an acceptable distance (ideally 0.25m max for each cable so 0.5m loop L-E, etc, but certainly below 0.5m max so less then 1m loop) ?

Thanks for your reply , yes so the distribution board is fed from a MCCB panel board @ 63A. My plan is to match up the supply cable size , come off the incoming side of the main switch to feed a 63a triple pole MBC in a separate enclosure then loop over to surge protector all under 0.5m
