Hi I have a old supply (switch and fuse) that used to power an immersion heater it is fused by itself at the consumer board could this be converted into active sockets or would I need a new circuit fitted thanks anyone for a bit of help

Where are you based? I had an old mate called Sharpy among other things
 
generally it would be a 16A breaker (15A fuse) feeding the heater on 2.5mm cable. you can usefor socketrs, but retain the 16A. (always assuming that the circuit is sound).
