Discuss Major or Minor Works? in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

I have recieved a quick reply from him. He has quoted the regs and stated he should issue a minor works. As Murdoch says it does seem it is a bit of a grey area. He will be issuing 3 seperate certificates, 1 for each flat.

I am happy to accept this as I feel as he is approachable, registered with Elecsa and I think if anyone queries in future(eg during a sale) I will be able to show his e-mail reply as an answer.

Am I right in thinking that whilst its a grey area for EIC/minor works (some views will obviously differ), the work is definitely not notifiable?
How??.

From BS7671

page 394 notes for minor electrical works certificate

the minor works certificate is intended to be used for additions and alterations to an installation that do not extend to the provision of a new circuit.

page 31 Part 2: definitions

Minor works. additions and alterations to an installation that do not extend to the provision of a new circuit.

He has without doubt provided 3 new distribution circuits and an EIC is the appropriate cert.

Hum. The circuits are replacing old ones!

But the route is not the same, and I have no idea if the cable type, size, and OCPD type and size is the same, but would guess they are not. The OP could confirm this.

If it were a like for like swap of cable I would agree with you, but a new origin, a new OCPD, a new route, and a new cable makes a new circuit for me.

And this is my point really, we have half information, at best, from a non competent person.......

Based on the info provided up to now, if it were my job, I would have regarded them as new circuits and issued EIC.

If this guy's Elecsa registered spark is happy to issue a MWC and the customer is happy then who am I to interfere with happiness ? lol

I would also have done an eic or 3 for what it's worth!

Sorry,I'll try and provide a bit more info.

Cutout before move 3x 100A fuses. 1 flat tailed straight out, with the other two sub mained via 60A fuse switches and 16mm T+E.

Situation now. New cutout with 3x 100A fuses. Tailed to 3x 80 switchfuses. Linked back to original position with 16mm SWA. All 3 circuits now with 60A switchfuses in cellar as being used to gland SWA and there was a spare from previous Economy 7. Also a seperate 16mm earth wire linking previous MET to new. I'm not an electrician, but have passed C&G 2382 and the new C&G 2394 as part of leaving forces so not completely non competent, although if I was a practising electrician I admit I would fall into the bracket of Electrical Trainee.

I have been thinking (dangerous) and either he has set up a new distribution board within the new meter cabinet(EIC) or simply extended the current supplies to each flats Consumer units(3x minor works). Grey area even with the rule book?
