You might find a shop up there. Earthing systems very often TN-S. If connection to conduit is sound then normally okay. If you say yours may of been overhead then the earth to the conduit may well just be earthing the conduit.

That is true, it's going to be interesting to find out.

The home owner is away at the moment so I haven't been able to get back in there yet to investigate (unless they have got another quote?)
Your right about them VIR's though, horrible stuff, I used to do a lot of live jointing on the DNO side and used to come across it feeding street light's.

I asked DNO for electricity 1:500 drawings and schematic's, the area is supplied via OHL's. So Im assuming that is where the power is coming from.

Yes this is one term which is incorrect, sometimes referred to as cab tyre. The rubber is vulcanised and used as insulation therefore it is vulcanised rubber insulation, VRI.

I've always known it as VIR.
I replaced miles of it in the late 60's with PVC singles.

If you google VIR / VRI it comes up about 50 /50.
With a few people insisting it's VRI.

I suspect VRI was the original (sounds a better description) and probably Trademarked or Copyrighted by the first manufacturer.
Then all following manufacturers had to use VIR as the description.

However VIR / VRI refers to singles.
TRS is probably the correct title for VRI /VRI singles within a Rubber sheath.
